Allegedly, we were supposed to see more of the Nazi-Ghosts, but the lack of money meant substandard make-up. So they wisely kept the villains in the shadows, which is always a better idea. Then when we do get a good, hard look at these monsters, the make-up can be a little more frightening. I suspect that if "Outpost" had more money to work with, it wouldn't have been as effective.

I can't say I liked it, because I couldn't stand many of its gimmicks and a few of the stories fell flat. But at the same time, I can't dismiss this either because it can be terrifying and at the absolute least, it is one of the more ambitious examples of its ilk.
  3. “The Ward (2010)” movie review.

“The Ward” was supposed to be John Carpenters' big comeback, a small horror/thriller that would be a return to his roots. Unfortunately, it was a bittersweet experience as you can see the Carpenter of old occasionally returning, only to be undermined by sloppy writing and questionable direction. “The Ward” isn't bad, but it's not very good either.

It's like the filmmakers got together and announced their ambitions as: “Let's make every haunted house movie ever made!”. So began long periods of research where they gathered all of the cliches together and created the monster known as “Dark Mirror”.

When a character touches a door and it ominously opens, what do they do? They trespass onto private property to investigate. Then when the home owner returns, he presumably decided to sneak up on the person as quietly as possible so when they turn around, they will walk right into a jump scare. What's funny is that the movie DOES THIS CLICHE TWICE! TWICE!
