1. “Legendary Assassin (2008)” movie review.

When a fight scene happens, it's less about the choreography and more about how sexy he (Jacky Wu) is when he throws a punch. It's totally an ego trip, albeit a harmless one. The truth is, Jacky Wu is really cool in this movie. It's just too bad the film nearly fails at everything else.
  2. “Dark Shadows (2012)” movie review.

Tim Burton was another great filmmaker who has lost sight of what made him good in the first place. Oh sure, his trademarks are still present, but they don't seem to mean anything anymore. His earlier- and best- efforts were noted for their high octane Gothic imagery, their quirky, morbid sense of humor and their ability to have heart amidst its visual style. The movies were about people who felt (or were) isolated from the rest of the world. They had substance, damn it! But eventually Burton's efforts started being less eccentric and more mainstream. While the visual style was still there, the humor became stale and the loner protagonist was reduced to a cog in a big machine. "Dark Shadows" is pretty much the embodiment of a true Tim Burton film these days. His touches are here, but they're underutilized.
  3. “Attack the Block (2011)” movie review.

“Attack the Block” is a sci-fi/comedy/action/horror film from England that stunned everyone by actually being good. Professional and amateur reviewers alike joined together in their praise for the movie, some even calling it one of the 'best action movies ever made'. Naturally, the more hype the movie got, the more I licked my lips in anticipation. Then I saw the movie and was disappointed. “Attack the Block” is a pretty good movie and that might've been a problem. The first wave of viewers had no expectations for the film, so when it turned out to be pretty good, they overreacted and that lead to the movie being over-hyped. Still...pretty good though.
  4. “The Cabin In the Woods (2012)” movie review.

"The Cabin in the Woods" seemed like a doomed project, considering it was made in 2009, looked like it belonged in the 1990's and wasn't released until 2012. The trailers felt spoilery and overly clever. Joss Whedon might be a hero of television, but his work on the big screen never impressed me that much. Yet the positive reviews managed to win my interest over and I left the theater feeling completely satisfied. Ambitious, creative, funny, intense, clever...it's the type of genre piece that anyone will like. But it's also the type of genre piece that horror fans such as myself will love.
  5. How High

It's been years since I last saw this so when I saw it the nostalgia goggles attacked & reminded me that I found it amusing back then. Then again I was baked so anything would've been funny at the time, but is it funny a decade later?
  6. Clueless, a somewhat guilty pleasure

Oh Alicia the things I would do to you... I could quite happily end there & fill the page with images of her, but then I'd miss the chance to fanwank over the glory that is this film. It reeks of 90's in every way, and we all know the 90's were awesome... Well unless you were a kid, in which case you really missed out. It's funny to think that after all these years I still have the same dress sense; then again I still have the same taste in games, right down to preferring the consoles over my modern ones.
  7. The Bounty Hunter… This isn’t Sparta.

Oh dear oh dear, Mr Butler why is this DVD box pink with added pink trim? Spartans are all about the pink box these days, even the Moviextras sticker is pink. Colours aside what we've got here is a comedy about a bounty hunter, his ex wife & a news story that gets out of hand.
  8. Angus, thongs and perfect snogging… Yay?

To be honest I have no idea why I decided to pick this up, well other than to round up the total at check out. The endorsement by Bliss should've been enough to warn me off, but alas I now own it & it's getting watched.
