I shall bestow “The Purge” a kiss upon its forehead for actually trying to make a home invasion thriller something MORE than just your average home invasion thriller. The central idea of crime being legal for a day would’ve been cooler in a flick that wasn’t trapped within the confines of this subgenre, but it also made "The Purge" stand out more than the majority of them…
  2. “You’re Next (2013)” movie review.

During my viewing, my opinions were constantly at war with each-other. Was I watching a bad movie that happened to have flashes of brilliance? Or a good movie which was making some severe missteps? After it was over, I pondered as to what I had just watched. Then I pondered some more. After hours of tearing my imaginary hair out in frustrated contemplation, I came to my conclusion. "You're Next" just wasn't worth stressing out over. It's not a very good movie, in spite of what the critics AND itself seems to think.

"Dark Skies" isn't a disaster. I almost wish it was, because then I would've at least felt...something about it. This is not a bad movie, but all of its successes tie in too closely with its failures, dragging the feature down into the deep pits of "meh".
  4. “Silent House (2012)” movie review.

From the creators of "Open Water" comes "Silent House", a film that boasts to be one continuous take throughout the entire film. An intriguing concept, but it wasn't enough to win over audiences and at best, it's a polarizing film. At worst, it's just a disappointing one. The more I think about it, the more I realize that this movie is "Open Water" all over again. Like that film, it can feel real and is continuously edgy, but it's also redundant and it's more cinematic moments don't gell with its attempts to be realistic. It's not a bad film. Hell, sometimes it's even a good film, but it runs out of steam long before its 85 minute run time is up.
