Whether I stamp my seal of approval on "Ragnarok" or not, you should consider the possibility that your own definition of 'family friendly' might not coincide with the opinions of Norway, netflix or myself. I was surprised at how scary this monster flick could be, but I can't embrace it as a definite success thanks to its reliance on obnoxious cliches.
  2. “Oculus (2014)” movie review.

"Oculus" is unusual though because it's one of the few modern day horror films where the script is the primary focus, not the direction. It boasts a very clever, inspired and engaging story, which is so successful that I didn't even realize it was lacking in the scare department until the film was over.
  3. “The Grandmaster (2013)” movie review.

"The Grandmaster" contains enough brilliance to be worth watching, but It's not brilliant itself. Kar Wai Wong delivered more than enough when it came to creative visual ideas, which were magnificently realized by Philippe Le Sourd (the cinematographer) and those who were in charge of costuming, sets, music composition, etc. The problem is that the sloppy narrative cannot sustain Kar Wai Wong's ambitions.
  4. “Chinese Zodiac (2012)” movie review.

"Chinese Zodiac" was condemned by the critics for feeling like your conventional Jackie Chan movie, albeit with watered down stunts, gimmicks and fight scenes. I technically do agree with the majority of their points, so why did I have so much fun with it?
