With the exception of its cast, I shouldn't like anything about “The Heroic Trio”. I'm not a fan of mawkish melodrama, padding, bad special effects, wacky comedy, wire work or bi-polar tones. But somehow, despite having ALL of that, “The Heroic Trio” is a lot of fun.

“Dead Birds” is a sloppy mess that thinks it's scary, but the sense of unease dissipates before the first half of the movie is even completed. It also wastes its concept, which perhaps is the most damning complaint coming from a fan of Military-Horror features. Grrrr.

It's stylish, unique and pushes the boundaries of conventional storytelling. It is truly an avant-garde action film. Or it's a self indulgent, overbearing, convoluted mess that needed to stop sniffing it's own ass because the fumes were clearly effecting it's better judgment. I guess that depends on you.
  4. “Attack the Block (2011)” movie review.

“Attack the Block” is a sci-fi/comedy/action/horror film from England that stunned everyone by actually being good. Professional and amateur reviewers alike joined together in their praise for the movie, some even calling it one of the 'best action movies ever made'. Naturally, the more hype the movie got, the more I licked my lips in anticipation. Then I saw the movie and was disappointed. “Attack the Block” is a pretty good movie and that might've been a problem. The first wave of viewers had no expectations for the film, so when it turned out to be pretty good, they overreacted and that lead to the movie being over-hyped. Still...pretty good though.
  5. MOVIE REVIEW: “The Burrowers (2008)”.

Ah, western-horror hybrids, why are you such a rare gem? I ask that question often in my reviews. I'm pretty sure I've ranted about this even when discussing movies that have nothing to do with either genre! It still baffles me how there isn't a single one I know of from the 60's. You'd think that with Gothic horror films and spaghetti westerns flourishing, someone would be like "Hey, why don't we combine these two"? But it didn't happen and all I can do is cry myself to sleep every night. Well peeps, my wait is finally over. "The Burrowers" is here and is everything I wanted out of a western-horror hybrid!
