I had liked "Lady Snowblood" during my initial viewing, but I think I only enjoyed it on a superficial level, believing it to be exploitation packaged as art. I was paying so much attention to the violence, sex and style that I overlooked the depth to be found within the story, characters and visuals.

"Operation Condor" was made during the perfect time period, as Jackie Chan had enough experience as a director, his star power allowed for massive budgets and he was still young enough to defy God and gravity with his jaw dropping stunts. It was the perfect storm for greatness.

"Riot" is bad, but not THAT bad and might even provide some surface level entertainment for a handful of viewers. Even though I was mentally acknowledging its army of failures, I never became bored, annoyed or angry. I was just very, very indifferent.

Bad will always be bad, but "Howling: New Moon Rising" is a special kind of evil- one that represents everything I deplore about cheap sequels, from stock footage abuse to padding to terrible everything, causing the traumatic experiences of the Puppet Master franchise to resurface.

"Howling V: The Rebirth" writes checks it cannot cash, but was still an easy watch and in some ways, is my favorite of the Howling sequels. After all, it's a werewolf-themed murder mystery which place in a dilapidated castle and that concept is just amazing.

On a technical level, "Howling 3" is a noticeable step up from its predecessor, even containing some legitimate good stuff. My problem is that even the filmmakers don't seem to know what kind of movie they wanted to make. A comedy? Horror? Arthouse? Romance? Environmentalist propaganda? Exploitation? It's too much of all of these genres to satisfy as any one of them!

I have witnessed "Howling II: Your Sister is a Werewolf" twice now and have come to the conclusion that somewhere late in its production, the filmmakers realized just how terrible their movie was and decided to re-package it as a joke.

"The Howling" is a good movie, one of the few examples of horror that I would recommend to even those who don't lurk within the fandom of the genre. Yet I have always felt that it is a bit overrated, believing that its more passionate followers have convinced themselves that the handful of exceptional moments embody the entire film.
