"The Eight Diagram Pole Fighter" is a flawed masterpiece, if it is a masterpiece at all. Many storythreads felt like they needed to either be omitted or more thoroughly explored and the philosophy doesn't always make sense. But viewers must brace themselves for the abundance of awesome fight sequences, which get progressively better until peeking with a teeth shattering finale.

If you can accept the occasional tone whiplash (graphic rape), or at least endure it, then you will find “The Iron Fisted Monk” to be kung fu gold. It has a cast of colorful characters, lots of superb action and a sophisticated prowess which you don’t see accompany these kinds of movies very often.

"Return to the 36th Chamber" might lack the golden reputation of its predecessor, but I personally preferred it thanks to the goofy tone, the amazing martial arts choreography, the creative gimmicks and the fact that 80% of the screentime isn't an exhausting training montage.
  4. “Shaolin (2011)” movie review.

"Shaolin" attempted to distract me from its familiarity by waving symbolic imagery in front of my face and saying a bunch of philosophical words, without ever engaging me in an actual conversation. The critic in me wishes to take its symbolism, shape it into a phallic object and shove it up the directors ass. Yet I can't bring myself to do that. While I think it failed in its attempts to be great, at least it provided a lot of action.
  5. “Shaolin Temple 2: Kids from Shaolin (1984)” movie review.

It’s not that “Kids from Shaolin” ever becomes bad, but I do believe the movie is just too…I dunno...Chinese? I know what you're thinking: "But MartialHorror, aren't Chinese movies supposed to be Chinese?". Oh wait...I guess I never thought about that. My bad! Actually, this is going to be difficult to explain, but I do believe my disdain towards "Kids from Shaolin" is merely a cultural thing.
