1. “Bunraku (2010)” movie review.

It's stylish, unique and pushes the boundaries of conventional storytelling. It is truly an avant-garde action film. Or it's a self indulgent, overbearing, convoluted mess that needed to stop sniffing it's own ass because the fumes were clearly effecting it's better judgment. I guess that depends on you.
  2. “Men in Black III (2012)” movie review.

It's been years since I saw "Men In Black" or its much maligned sequel, so perhaps I'd feel differently if I saw then now. What I liked about the first movie was that it never got lost in spectacle. It was less about the special effects and more about our reactions to them. It would often be scary, dramatic, funny, intense, adventurous and action packed, all at once. It was the full cinematic experience. It's sequel was a hollow shell of that. Honestly, the only thing I remember about "Men in Black 2" was the (certainly impressive) special effects, which were flashy but seemed to lack substance. "Men in Black III" is trapped somewhere in between. It did leave an impression other than "it's pretty", but so much about it seems underdeveloped.

“The Avengers” could NOT allow itself to fail, for doing so would bring the wrath of millions of angry virgins upon the filmmakers. It must've been just as terrifying as it would be exciting. Yet they should not worry, as “The Avengers” was...freaking...AMAZING! This movie left me squealing like a little fanboy, and I've never even read the comics!

"John Carter" is one of those movies that can be enjoyed if you go into it with the right mentality. If you just look at it as another conventional epic that's only purpose is to show off some cool special effects, or you want a high spectacle/low plot ratio, then you'll likely find the movie to be agreeable enough. The problem is it should've been more. Armed with a $250,000,000 budget and a lot talent (behind and in front of the camera), it should've bitch slapped us with the golden arm of cinema. But it didn't and in the end, it's just another CGI-fest, high on spectacle and low on everything else.
