"Deliver us From Evil" doesn't contain a single original idea, other than maybe making Joel McHale into a bad-ass, but it takes those familiar possession concepts and blends them with the clichés of a gritty police drama. This mating of genres is fairy unique and it helps that they have chemistry together, making the film seem more original than it really is.

The main problem with “Mama” though is that in terms of story, it’s the same old shit that we’ve seen in every other paranormal flick out there. The only parts which leave an impression- the weird attempts at humor and the sudden transition from horror to fantasy- only stand out because they don't work.

"Dark Skies" isn't a disaster. I almost wish it was, because then I would've at least felt...something about it. This is not a bad movie, but all of its successes tie in too closely with its failures, dragging the feature down into the deep pits of "meh".
  4. “Sinister (2012)” movie review.

"Sinister" doesn't push any boundaries, nor will it rejuvenate horror movies. But it is one of the better examples of its kind and if every ghost-thriller was this good, I wouldn't be complaining about how similar they are.
