"Three Outlaw Samurai", which probably should be called "Three Outlaw Ronin", is an entertaining Chambara opus thanks to an abundance of style and swordplay. But it's not likely to last very long within your memory because it borrows from every trendy samurai flick of its time...
  2. “47 Ronin (2013)” movie review.

"47 Ronin" sounds like it would be quite the lark, either as something ludicrously epic or ridiculously stupid, but entertaining all the same. Yet I can't say I ever really enjoyed myself during my viewing. The film isn't especially terrible, it's just kind of subpar and dull. At times, I WISHED it would become atrocious simply so I could feel SOMETHING as I endured it. But a las, I was overcome by its blandness.

“Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai” is a very slow paced film, which isn’t a criticism as much as it’s a warning. But at least it was well made. There’s very little I can criticize about it objectively. However, I’ve come back to my original issue. Is it good because “Harakiri (1962)” was good? Or should it be derided because it coasts off the quality of “Harakiri (1962)”’? I almost want to say both.
  4. “Trail of Blood (1972)” movie review.

“Trail of Blood” is a decent film, but there's something erratic about it. It's strengths and weaknesses are constantly crossing swords with each-other, but every time one begins to overpower the other, it turns out to be a ruse and the tides turn. But who won? For me, the battle is still ongoing.
