1. “23:59 (2011)” movie review.

"23:59" has a strong first act, shrouding itself in mystery, a chillingly foreboding atmosphere and creepy scares. Unfortunately, its initial success only makes the rest of the movie suck that much harder. Even though I adore military themed horror flicks, this ghost-thriller is a casualty of war.

“V/H/S/2” mastered the formula of its predecessor, being incredibly well paced- a rarity for any anthology- and improved the quality of each individual short, while making sure the tone was consistent. It also helps that the film is pretty scary.
  3. “The Reef (2010)” movie review.

“The Reef” coasts off the formula designed by “Jaws” and “Open Water”, never doing ANYTHING new or unique itself. Yet the problem is that even though it’s a storm of shark movie clichés, it actually executes the formula fairly well. Even if the majority of its scare tactics were invented by Steven Spielberg 40 years ago, at least the filmmakers of “The Reef” applied them effectively.
  4. “I, Frankenstein (2014)” movie review.

"I, Frankenstein" is guilty of the usual critical follies, whether it be stupid dialogue, weak acting, a flimsy plot, awkward pacing or unreliable special effects. But its greatest sin is that even though it contains a non-stop onslaught of action and visual effects, it's just not very fun.
