1. “Ip Man: The Final Fight (2013)” movie review.

Unfortunately, while "Ip Man: The Final Fight" does give us a more human incarnation of the titular character, he's lost underneath a sea of supporting characters and subplots. The movie does boast some of the coolest production values and fight scenes that the trend has ever delivered, but its scatterbrained narrative is so frustrating!
  2. “Bulletproof Monk (2003)” movie review.

It’s embarrassing seeing a talented cast forced to spew out bad dialogue they probably didn't understand, participate in a stupid, hole ridden story and perform fight scenes using horrible special effects. “Bulletproof Monk” is just kind of awkward to watch…
  3. “The One (2001)” movie review.

“The One” seems to be comprised of a handful of awesome sequences which arguably surpassed “The Matrix” when it came to sheer coolness, but it doesn’t have much else going for it. Sad, as it had an interesting premise, a hair wielding Jason Statham and TWO Jet Li’s kicking ass. It’s still fun, but it could’ve been so much more than a wannabe Matrix.

"Return to the 36th Chamber" might lack the golden reputation of its predecessor, but I personally preferred it thanks to the goofy tone, the amazing martial arts choreography, the creative gimmicks and the fact that 80% of the screentime isn't an exhausting training montage.
  5. “Disciples of Shaolin (1975)” movie review.

“Disciples of Shaolin” tries its hardest to balance comedy, drama, kung fu, tragedy and even romance, but everything is crammed in together so much that it becomes difficult to say the movie excels in any of those regards…Although it doesn’t fail either. The effort does sometimes pay off.
  6. “Kill Zone- S.P.L (2005)” movie review.

I suppose that instead of criticizing “Kill Zone” for failing to reach its full potential, I should instead focus on how it somehow kept me invested despite sacrificing character development for kung fu, while not having enough kung fu. So I’m going to say that “Kill Zone” is a good movie because of its successes, while its failures keep it from being great.
  7. “Zatoichi Meets the One Armed Swordsman (1971)” movie review

“Zatoichi Meets the One Armed Swordsman” does have its share of flaws, but it’s a stellar Chambara flick which stands out among the crowd, even if it’s not technically one of the better entries. Plus, it has our beloved blind swordsman Ichi fighting the legendary one-armed swordsman from..."The One-Armed Swordsman" and Jimmy Wang Yu is reprising his (most famous) role! That's just freaking awesome.
  8. “The Prodigal Son (1981)” movie review.

I just can't bring myself to call "The Prodigal Son" great, even if it has greatness within it. The story is too disjointed, the comedy is a mixed bag and the kung fu...well, the kung fu is awesome. It's directed by Sammo Hung and stars Yuen Biao. IT BETTER BE FREAKING AWESOME. But it is and that's what we ask for, so "The Prodigal Son" is a success.
