1. “28 Days Later (2002)” movie review.

Is “28 Days Later” a zombie classic? Well, no...because it's not even a zombie movie. I do still believe that it's overrated, but as an adult, I can appreciate the substance within the story and the artistry put in every frame.
  2. “Attack the Block (2011)” movie review.

“Attack the Block” is a sci-fi/comedy/action/horror film from England that stunned everyone by actually being good. Professional and amateur reviewers alike joined together in their praise for the movie, some even calling it one of the 'best action movies ever made'. Naturally, the more hype the movie got, the more I licked my lips in anticipation. Then I saw the movie and was disappointed. “Attack the Block” is a pretty good movie and that might've been a problem. The first wave of viewers had no expectations for the film, so when it turned out to be pretty good, they overreacted and that lead to the movie being over-hyped. Still...pretty good though.
  3. “The Thing From Another World (1951)” movie review

If a movie is remade, sometimes I acquire the original along with the remake and watch them both back-to-back. Just recently, I (re)watched the 1982 cult classic, "The Thing" and followed it up with the 2011 not cult classic, "The Thing" prequel. But what some people don't realize is that the 1982 film was actually a remake of "The Thing From Another World", which the prequel often paid tribute too. As a lover of the 1982 version (indifferent to the prequel), I decided to check this one out and is it good? Sure, but it's only vaguely a horror film.
  4. “Murder by Decree (1979)” movie review.

Imagine the old wet streets of London, complete eerie fog and the echoing of horse shoes on cobblestone, masking the presence of a sadistic menace. It's Jack the Ripper and he has struck again. The police are baffled. How did someone butcher their victim in such a condensed area like Whitechapel and not get caught? In reality, Jack the Ripper was never captured or even identified. “Murder by Decree” answers the question of if the Ripper would've evaded the law had Sherlock Holmes taken the case. If that isn't awesome enough, what if the movie in question decided to be a horror film directed by the man who brought us the creepy “Black Christmas”? If that's not the best idea conceived by man, I don't know what is.
  5. “Hellraiser VI: Hellseeker (2002)” movie review.

“Hellraiser 5: Inferno” had left fans either fuming or glowing, and I happened to be one of the latter. It made me feel everything it wanted me to feel, even if it was far from the conventional Hellraiser entry. It's even more shocking considering its bizarre back-story, that should spell out "epic failure". “Hellraiser 6: Hellseeker” had a similar back-story in that the studio took an acquired script that had nothing to do with the franchise and converted it into the next Hellraiser entry. You can see that the filmmakers tried to recapture that same surreal energy of its predecessor, but it fails. It fails badly.
  6. “Hellraiser IV: Bloodline (1996)” review.

I can only imagine that the studios looked at the (amusing) abomination they created in the form of "Hellraiser 3" and realized they may have lost a potential cash cow with their half baked entry. Like or hate "Hellraiser 4", there is no denying the effort put into it. It's ambitious, sometimes even innovative. However, during production, the studio clashed with the director, who left the project and ended up using the dreaded Alan Smithee pseudonym in place of his own. His film ended up being chopped apart before they even finished the shoot! I'm not sure the movie would've been a classic had the director been around to express his vision, but the pieces that are left of his work are still surprisingly effective.
  7. “Gone (2012)” review

Stupid, stupid MartialHorror. I'm not sure what deserves to be spat upon more. "Gone", for being about as generic as the title suggests, or myself for knowing that it would be as generic as the title suggested, yet went to see it anyway. "Gone" is one of those movies that if you watch the trailer, you could probably figure out everything that's going to happen and not often be wrong. When there is a movie like this and the execution of bland material is rather mediocre itself, why should one even bother with it?
  8. MOVIE REVIEW: “Hostel (2005)”

“Hostel” is a controversial horror film, but not controversial in the way that most horror films are. It's controversial because the horror fandom is split when it comes to its quality. Is it good? Is it bad? Is it a cult classic? Fans appreciated its originality, violence and tension. The detractors hated the tone, characters and probably were overreacting to the critics positive reaction to the film. I like “Hostel”, but I have no idea why the critics did because at its core, it's just another splatter film.
